I really want to see this movie about the creators of facebook - it has been nominated for numerous awards and has a wonderful cast. As for facebook itself, although I have an account I have started wondering lately if it's not more of a negative than positive mechanism for keeping up with people. At first, I absolutely loved it because it provided a secure mechanism to keep up with family & friends both near and far. I felt like I could be a better friend because I was aware of what went on in my friends' & family's lives and could offer encouragement, support, or congratulations.
While I still think it is useful for those matters, I'm beginning to notice that it can also be a rather selfish tool. Some people actually place a lot of self worth on whether anyone comments on their posts. I've noticed Christians (even some in leadership positions!) posting things that really seek to divide people not bring them together. And someone please save me from the politics! Lastly, I think it can become addicting and as someone who spends a lot of time working on a computer, I can see that I'm spending more time on facebook than I should.
Therefore I'm taking a little break from social networking. I'll keep my account active because some folks use that as a means to communicate with me, but don't plan to visit it much. I may get back on in a while, but will enjoy the break!
